Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or block mozzarella cut into sticks)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil spray (for air frying)

Instructions

  1. Cut block mozzarella into sticks, if not using string cheese. Lay them on a parchment-lined tray.
  2. Freeze cheese sticks for 30 minutes to firm them up.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls:
    – Bowl 1: Add flour with a pinch of salt and pepper.
    – Bowl 2: Beat the eggs until smooth.
    – Bowl 3: Mix seasoned breadcrumbs, panko, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and paprika.
  4. Coat each cheese stick in flour, then dip in egg, then roll in breadcrumb mixture.
  5. For a crispier crust, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating (double-coat).
  6. Place breaded sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  8. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil.
  9. Arrange frozen sticks in the basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd.
  10. Spray the tops with olive oil.
  11. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway. Watch closely at the end.
  12. Serve hot with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Freezing is essential to prevent cheese leakage.

Double-coating ensures a crispy, sealed crust.

You can mix in grated Parmesan for added flavor.

For spice, add cayenne to the breadcrumb mix.

Serve immediately for best texture.
