This Spicy Southwest Turkey Burgers recipe combines lean ground turkey with bold southwestern spices for a flavorful, healthy burger option. The smoky chili powder and cumin paired with fresh cilantro and lime make these burgers vibrant and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, chopped onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly distributed; avoid overmixing.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a ¾-inch thick patty.
  4. Press a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent shrinking during cooking.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat or preheat your grill.
  6. Cook patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Flip once carefully to maintain shape.
  7. Remove patties from heat and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Customize spice levels by adjusting cayenne pepper.

For low-carb options, serve in lettuce wraps instead of buns.

These burgers freeze well when uncooked; thaw before cooking.

Add toppings like avocado, sliced tomato, or a yogurt-based sauce for extra flavor.
