Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture on low speed until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips or other desired mix-ins.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart, and slightly flatten each ball.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to sit on the baking sheets for 2–3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

For extra soft cookies, slightly underbake and allow to cool on the baking sheet.

Customize with nuts, sea salt, or flavored chocolate chips for variety.

Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes before baking to prevent spreading.
