Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices Texas toast
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Chop the vegetables: Finely chop the onion and dice the green bell pepper. Set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a spatula. Ensure no pink remains.
  3. Add vegetables: Add the chopped onions and diced bell peppers to the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally.
  4. Season the mixture: Sprinkle in garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to coat the beef and vegetables evenly.
  5. Add sauces: Pour in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Prepare the Texas toast: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread butter evenly on both sides of the Texas toast slices. Place on a baking sheet and toast for 5–7 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  7. Assemble the sandwiches: Spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto each slice of toasted Texas bread. Optionally, top with shredded cheese or fresh herbs.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately while hot with your favorite sides.
