This Pumpkin Cream Cheese Frosting is the perfect balance of creamy, tangy, and spiced sweetness. Ideal for cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, it’s a versatile frosting that elevates any dessert. The recipe is easy to make, customizable, and made with simple, affordable ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Allow the cream cheese and butter to soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until creamy and smooth.
  3. Gradually add the pumpkin puree, mixing on low speed initially, then medium speed until fully incorporated.
  4. Add the vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and a pinch of salt. Mix on low speed until spices are evenly distributed.
  5. Slowly add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent splattering. Increase to medium speed after each addition until smooth.
  6. Check consistency: if too thin, add a little more powdered sugar; if too thick, add 1–2 teaspoons of milk or cream to achieve desired texture.
  7. Optional: customize with maple syrup, extra spices, or cocoa powder for flavor variations.
  8. Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or refrigerate in an airtight container and allow to soften before use.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for easy mixing.

Gradually adding powdered sugar prevents lumps and maintains smooth texture.

The frosting can be flavored further with additional spices or extracts as desired.
