Peri Peri Fish Nuggets are golden, crispy bites of tender white fish coated in a flavorful peri peri spice blend. Quick to prepare, affordable, and perfect for family dinners or party snacks, they are guaranteed to be a crowd favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or haddock), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tbsp peri peri seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 ½ cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the fish fillets, pat them dry, and cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, season the fish pieces with peri peri seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to coat evenly. Allow to rest for 15 minutes if you want a stronger flavor.
  3. Prepare three bowls: one with a mix of flour and cornstarch, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  4. Dip each fish piece into the flour mixture, shake off the excess, then coat in beaten egg, and finally roll in breadcrumbs until evenly coated. Place coated pieces on a tray lined with parchment paper.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C). Test with a breadcrumb—if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  6. Fry the nuggets in small batches for 3–4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with lemon wedges and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

You can bake the nuggets at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway, for a lighter version.

Adjust the peri peri seasoning to your preferred spice level.

Panko breadcrumbs provide extra crunch, but regular breadcrumbs work well too.

Serve with dips like garlic mayo, yogurt sauce, or ketchup.
