Enjoy a homemade pretzel dog combining soft, chewy pretzel dough wrapped around a savory turkey bacon-wrapped hot dog. This recipe is perfect for snacks, parties, or casual meals. It’s easy to customize and budget-friendly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 turkey bacon-wrapped hot dogs
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it foam for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 7-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Bring 8 cups of water to boil, then add baking soda.
  7. Punch down dough and divide into 4 pieces. Roll each into a 12-inch rope.
  8. Wrap each turkey bacon-wrapped hot dog with dough, sealing the ends.
  9. Boil each wrapped dog for 30 seconds in baking soda water.
  10. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  11. Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool briefly before serving.

Notes

Ensure water for yeast is warm, not hot, to avoid killing yeast.

Use a slotted spoon to handle pretzel dogs during boiling to prevent damage.

Adjust coarse salt amount according to taste.

Leftover pretzel dogs can be reheated in the oven for a fresh taste.
