Bloody Red Velvet Popcorn is a fun and dramatic twist on a classic snack. With its vibrant red glaze and creamy drizzle, it combines the beloved flavor of red velvet cake with the crunch of popcorn. Perfect for holidays, themed parties, or simply when you want to impress guests with a unique homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups plain popped popcorn
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 teaspoons red food coloring (gel recommended)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup white chocolate (for drizzle)
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (for drizzle)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Pop 8 cups of plain popcorn and place in a large mixing bowl. Remove any unpopped kernels.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, cocoa powder, and corn syrup (or honey). Stir over medium heat until butter melts and mixture is smooth.
  3. Add vanilla extract, salt, and red food coloring. Allow to boil lightly for 3–4 minutes without stirring.
  4. Pour the hot red velvet glaze over the popcorn. Toss quickly to coat evenly.
  5. Spread coated popcorn on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 250°F (120°C) for 30–40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Remove and let cool completely.
  7. Melt white chocolate until smooth. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese with powdered sugar. Combine both to make the drizzle.
  8. Drizzle over cooled popcorn using a spoon or piping bag. Let set before serving.

Notes

Always work quickly when coating the popcorn, as the glaze hardens fast.

For a natural option, replace food coloring with beetroot powder or beet juice.

Store in an airtight container to maintain crunch.
