Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tablespoon dried)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast on top and let it sit for 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add the softened butter and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes by hand (or 5 minutes in a stand mixer) until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish or on a lined baking tray.
  6. Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise again for 30 to 40 minutes, until puffy.
  7. While the rolls rise, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in the parsley and remove from heat.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with half of the garlic butter mixture.
  9. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  10. Remove from the oven and brush the warm rolls with the remaining garlic butter before serving.

Notes

For a cheesier version, sprinkle grated mozzarella or parmesan on top before baking.

If using instant yeast, it can be mixed directly into the flour, skipping the activation step.

Rolls can be frozen after baking; reheat in the oven to refresh texture.

Fresh parsley adds vibrant color and flavor, but dried parsley works well as a substitute.
