These chocolate chip cookie dough twists are a fun and creative spin on the classic cookie. With their chewy texture, golden edges, and rich chocolate flavor, they make a delightful treat for any occasion. Simple ingredients, quick preparation, and an eye-catching twist shape make this recipe a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  4. Gradually stir in the flour mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed.
  6. Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Roll small portions of dough into 6-inch ropes. Twist two ropes together gently and place on the prepared sheet. Leave space between each twist to allow spreading.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers remain slightly soft.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Do not skip the chilling step; it ensures the twists hold their shape.

For a softer texture, remove the twists from the oven as soon as the edges are golden.

Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a warm spice flavor.
