This Crockpot Chocolate Lava Cake is a decadent dessert that combines the convenience of slow cooking with the indulgence of a molten chocolate center. Perfect for family gatherings, special occasions, or an everyday treat, it’s simple to prepare yet impressively rich and luxurious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water
  • Optional toppings: powdered sugar, fresh berries, or ice cream

Instructions

  1. Grease the inside of a 4–6 quart crockpot with butter or non-stick spray. Optionally, line with parchment paper for easier removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until evenly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a thick, smooth batter forms.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips or chopped chocolate carefully.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared crockpot and spread evenly. Tap lightly to remove air bubbles.
  7. Carefully pour boiling water over the back of a spoon onto the batter; do not stir.
  8. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, avoiding lifting the lid to retain heat.
  9. Check edges for doneness; they should be firm while the center remains molten.
  10. Scoop onto plates, capturing the gooey center. Add optional toppings such as powdered sugar, berries, or ice cream.

Notes

Use a variety of chocolates to adjust richness.

For a slightly firmer center, reduce water by 2–3 tablespoons.

Make sure to monitor cooking time, as crockpot temperatures vary.
