This Coconut and Honey Dog Cake is a soft, naturally sweet, and wholesome treat made especially for dogs. It combines the gentle flavor of coconut with the mild sweetness of honey, creating a moist cake that’s safe, healthy, and easy to prepare. It’s perfect for birthdays, adoption celebrations, or just as a special homemade surprise for your furry friend.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 egg (or ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce for egg-free)
  • 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp natural honey
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 23 tbsp water or low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a small cake pan with a little coconut oil or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and shredded coconut. Stir well to mix evenly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together egg, melted coconut oil, honey, and applesauce until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until fully combined. The batter should be thick but pourable. If needed, add a bit of water or broth to reach the right consistency.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. Once cooled, decorate with unsweetened Greek yogurt, a sprinkle of shredded coconut, or banana slices if desired.
  9. Slice into small portions before serving to your dog.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are unsweetened and dog-safe.

Always allow the cake to cool fully before serving.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.

You can bake the batter in cupcake molds for smaller servings.

For sensitive dogs, use oat flour and applesauce instead of egg.
