Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14 oz)
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried sage (or 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prep Ingredients: Peel and dice apples, dice onion, mince garlic, drain and rinse beans.
  2. Cook Turkey: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook until no longer pink.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add onions and cook 4–5 minutes until translucent. Add garlic and cook 1–2 minutes.
  4. Add Spices and Sage: Sprinkle chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and sage. Stir for 1–2 minutes to toast spices.
  5. Add Apples and Tomatoes: Mix in diced apples and canned tomatoes with juice. Stir evenly.
  6. Add Beans and Broth: Gently stir in kidney beans, black beans, and chicken broth. Bring to a gentle boil.
  7. Simmer Chili: Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 25–30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  8. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust salt, pepper, or spices as needed. Simmer uncovered 5–10 minutes if thicker chili is desired.
  9. Serve: Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs, shredded cheese, or sour cream.

Notes

Apples add natural sweetness; replace with pears if desired.

Fresh sage enhances flavor but dried works well.

Adjust spice level with jalapeños, chili flakes, or cayenne.

This chili can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or freezer.
